PhD/Research Studies
The School has a large and dynamic community of PhD students and is equipped to enable them to conduct their research well beyond the national minimum, including access to sophisticated facilities such as the SAP and multimedia laboratories as well as supercomputing equipment.
Research areas and admission
PhD research opportunities are available in all five of the School's Departments and Research Centres (Computing, Health Informatics, Human-Computer Interaction Design, Information Science and Software Reliability).
Admission of research students is dependent on the expertise currently available in the School. For this reason it is important for you to consider the School's areas of research before applying as we will assess the fit of your research proposal with the School's research when considering your application.
It is preferable if you identify an academic member of staff undertaking
research in your area of interest who may be willing to supervise your
research and discuss your proposed
topic of research with them before you submit your application. The PhD supervisors' research interests page provides a summary of staff research interests. If you are unsure of who to contact, please contact the relevant Senior

Student Profile: Mathieu Bergeron
Mathieu Bergeron is undertaking his PhD research within the Music Informatics Research Group in the Department of Computing. “Through indispensable financial support, City University London is allowing me to live a rich international experience in London and to attend international conferences such as the last IJCAI in India. I am especially thrilled to be granted such support to work in the emerging and multi-displinary field of music-informatics, an area to which City University London has made a bold commitment, resulting in the creation of one of the few research groups in the domain.” |
